Guide to Buying Windows
With a few very special exceptions, all windows open onto an external environment, so the basic considerations of protection, durability and security apply. Also be sure that the material and type you choose fits aesthetically with the rest of your house, as the windows are among the most visible features of a building. With windows, the type of material is very pertinent. A selection of the most popular follows:
- Aluminium - easily manufactured and adjusted, however, is prone to heat loss.
- Fibreglass - Good at preventing heat loss, but are more expensive
- Vinyl - Strong, durable and efficient, but despite this, they may not gel with the aesthetic you are going for.
- Wood - While these are much less prone to the adverse effects of temperature and weather, they require considerably more maintenance.
As always, the same advice applies - do as much research and planning as possible, and you should be more than pleased with the results!
