Doors and Windows for Remodelling your Home

Guide to Buying Doors

Doors fall into two distinct categories - Internal and External. As the names suggest, internal doors are those designed to be fitted inside a building to connect rooms, wher eas external doors are those that open onto an exterior. There are all kinds of things one must consider in this regard, as an external door has a different purpose to that of an internal one, and thus different factors must be considered when buying one.

External Doors

As these are designed to act as a portal to the outside world, they need to be more sturdy and durable in order to protect against weather and other natural occurences, as well as against unwanted entry. However, this does not mean you should buy a slab of padlocked iron and be done with it! In addition to protecting, the front door also gives a first impression, forming part of the front of your house. An ugly door, or one that does not mesh with the style of your house, will jar.

Internal Doors

With internal doors, there is a wider potential for application. There are doors to rooms, partition doors, sliding doors, bathroom doors, wardrobe doors - the number of different applications here is much larger and less restricted by the need for protection. The main things to consider here are function and style. What is this door to be used for? Will it require a stronger, more durable material? Would a special kind or door work better? Does it need to be lockable? What kind of handle would match best with the surroundings ? Is the material the right kind to blend with the aesthetics? Or are you looking to make this one stand out?

As you can see, there is a lot more to consider with an internal door. As always, the more pre-planning, the easier it will be!
